Anything that is not related to religion, such as something that contains a crucifix or a religious symbol or icon. Also, it would probably be advised not to give a gift that may be considered sexually inapropriate, such as what might be found in an "adult" store.

If you wish, a gift would likely be very appreciated by the witness wh is getting baptised.

Usually, if a Jehovah's Witnesses gives a gift to someone who gets baptised, it is often an item that he can use in his door-to-door preaching work such as a monogramed Bible or a book bag.

I am assuming that the asker of ths question is not a witness, so if you choose The Bible option, you probably realize that we primarily use the New World Translation. This Bible can actually obtained free of charge by visiting a book counter at a Kingdom Hall, and then can be sent to a book binding comapny to be personalized with a leather cover and a name embossed on it. Often, JW's will include one of our smaller research publications that we call the Reasoning Book into the binding so that the witness has his Bible and a Bible research tool all in one book. The Reasoning Book is also free of charge just for the asking.

Since JW's also use other Bible translations in our research, you my wish to give a gift of anther Bible translation that is more readily available to you.

These are some suggestions for what you might give, but you should keep in mind that JW's avoid the use or possession of any religious icons or symbols, including crosses. It would be good to make sure that any gift given does not have any religious symbols.

ANSWER FROM ONE OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES...

At my baptism I got pens, neck ties, note books but the gifts that mean the most to me from that day is the framed photos that my Best friend and his wife gave me along with a the other framed photos of my baptism from other Brothers and Sisters. By doing some thing such as this that special day stays very clear in my mind, seeing the photos just brings that most happy day flooding right back.

A gift like this is very simple, low in cost but really does mean everything to the person who you are going to give it to.

Anything that is not religiously offensive. Or that is not politically or nationally branded. It's pretty open ranged outside of that. A household item, a nice scarf, a bag or briefcase to assist them in their ministry is great, etc. It also depends on your affiliation, or relation to the member. Hope this helps.

ANSWER

Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Christmas so it would be inappropriate to offer one of Jehovah's Witnesses a gift for Christmas.

My Mother never discouraged anyone from giving us kids gifts and presents. It was, she said, what other people do. However of course one should always be tactful and explain as needs arise our beliefs and why we don't celebrate some things like birthday's, Christmas and Easter. Although we never celebrated certain events we still gave gifts to each other around our annual Conventions in the summer months. Present Day as we called it was an occasion when we could show our love for each other as a family, and not be tied to an event where one feels obligated to give for giving's sake.

It would be best not to give them any religious items. (Including crosses or statues.) It would also be good not to give anything to do with spirtism. (Such as movies about demons, or clothing with images such as ghosts or skeletons.) And remember that Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Christmas, or birthdays.

It is perfectly acceptable to give a baptismal gift to one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Gifts for any reason at any time are acceptable. However, since servants of Jehovah do not celebrate pagan based holidays, it is up to their Bible trained conscience and the situation as to whether or not they accept. 1 Corinthians 10:31-33 helps us to remember that whatever we do decide to accept as gifts, that we do so as to not stumble others.

The best gift for a Witness of Jehovah God, is to do as Jesus stated in Matt 25:35,36. When we come to your door with our Bible in our hand;

1) invite us in;

2) get your Bible;

3) give us a glass of water;

4) and listen intently.

We won't stay all day; and we won't sign-you-up on any membership roll.

You can keep your money (we don't have a paid clergy that needs constant financial support and a retirement package).

There is no religious prohibition on the consumption of alcohol in moderation for Jehovah's Witnessses.
