It is hard to compare the four different groups. The question is like asking the difference between four football teams, two in the AFC and two on the NFC. A republican conservative is becoming more and more of a oxymoron. Example: George W. Bush would be considered a republican because he capitulated with the $700 billion dollar bailout of big business. A true conservative would have let them dig themselves out. Conservatives are more fiscally minded than republicans. Democrat liberals are the same situation. Liberals are leaning more and more to the left feeling emboldened by voters in the last election. They may turn out to be Obama's Achilles heel, when he appeases democrats that are more moderate and they take revenge on him by retracting their previously undying support. A good example is the public option portion of the health plan. Liberal democrats are for using the government and taxation as an end all to socioeconomic problems. A democrat would look for more wide ranging solutions including higher taxes.

The Federalists espoused the view of John Adams and believed in a strong federal government. The Republicans favored Jefferson's ideas and believed the ultimate power rested with the individual states; the federal government's only job was to provide services that the states could not individually supply such as coin money or set up a national postal system.
