Aramaic was the lingua franca of the Near East. The significance is that it was used by Paul to communicate to Jews and non-Jews throughout Syria and Asia Minor. Greek was used as well (especially in the Greek city states in Hellenized Roman Empire) but Aramaic was common to Paul and those he ministered to. The Aramaic Bible (Peshitta) has been used for the past 1600-1800 years virtually in the same language and provides nuances and insights that are absent in the Greek texts.
