For the US, and not counting operations and the TET offensive, the bloodiest battle may have been the Ia Drang valley fight, which occurred in 1965; and was depicted in the film "We Were Soldiers...". HOWEVER, the movie (film) only depicts 1/2 of the battle, which was LTC H. Moore's battalion. The fight lasted three days, and a second US Army battalion entered the engagement which was nearly destroyed. Approximately 300 US GI's were killed in all. The Battle of Dak To may have been the second bloodiest, fought by the 173rd Airborne Divison; followed by the Battle of Hamburger Hill fought by the 101st Airborne Division in 1969.

America's longest war was against the American Indians (American Natives) which lasted from 1622 (Battle of the James River Settlement which had 347 colonists killed) to the Battle of Wounded Knee in 1890. America's longest war against another COUNTRY (Nation) was the Vietnam War. A war against the country of North Vietnam. America's longest war and bloodiest war would be the Vietnam War with over 58,000 US military men being killed there. America's bloodiest war would be the American Civil War (US Civil War) with nearly a million dead, but Americans were killing Americans...thus the high number.
The longest war against another recognized government was the Vietnam War which took place from 1955 (President Eisenhower's administration) through 1975 (President Ford's administration).
