great soul
The above does not say what the word for soul is in Sanskrit. Befor attempting to give the equivalent word for "soul" in Sanskrit it must be noted that the word
Atman[ आत्मन्] which is the nearest substitute for soul is conceptually different fromn the way it is understood in Christain or Islamic sources. Within the Vedic syatem Atman is not created. Since there are several philosophical streams within Sanatana Dharma(Hinduism) taking a dwaitic view for that would be in line with most religious conceptions of the world, there are an infinity of Atmans, eternal and indestructible. They just like Nature get absorbed into paramAtman [परमात्मन्= Supreme Soul] at the time of Great Dissolution [महाप्रलय:].
If one goes by the Advaitic view of the Atman then it is indistinguishable from the Brahman(= paramAtman ). The distinction then is only of a tentative nature.
Thus either way the concept of soul Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism is different from other world's religions.
