Answer . Lime Based Skim coat (LSC) is made with lime in various formulation and there is no standard formulation. The same consists of mainly lime, oil and several other …igredients which changes from place to place. Cement based Skim coat on the other hand is factory made and contains Cement as Binder along with Filler and Additive to support various properties. The basic difference between Lime Based Skim Coat and Cement Based are that the Lime Based Skim Coat are not water resistant and cannot be applied externally, whereas cement based Skim Coat(CSC) can be applied interiors as well as exteriors. They are water resistant. The adhesion strength of the CSC is much higher than LSC. CSC being cement based becomes an integral part of the base plaster hence the durability is very high. LSC on the other hand cannot tolerate any moisture and gets peeled off in contact with the moisture.. The Skim Coats are generally done as a base coat for paints and the CSC provide a firm base for the paints. The CSC can be made water resistant which results in lower consumption of Paint by around 20%. The initial cost of application of CSC is slightly higher than the LSC which is compensated by the lesser paint consumption and becomes lower as no primer is required after application of the CSC.. Skimming is a process of speed reading that involves visually searching the sentences of a page for clues to meaning. For some people, this comes naturally, and usually can… not be acquired by practice. Skimming is usually seen more in adults than in children. It is conducted at a higher rate (700 words per minute and above) than normal reading for comprehension (around 200-230 wpm), and results in lower comprehension rates, especially with information-rich reading material. Another form of skimming is that commonly employed by readers on the Web. This involves skipping over text that is less interesting or relevant. This form of reading is not new but has become increasingly prevalent due to the ease with which alternative information can be accessed online.

They are the same thing. A skim means just a thin finishing coat of plaster about 3mm or so thick, just enough to cover any minor imperferctions on the wall.
In olden days of yore plaster was applied over wooen lath which gave the plaster something to adhere to . Thus a much heavier coat of plaster could be applied because of the s…pace between the lathes. the next day a second coat was applied called the skim coat because it's only purpose was to fill in the imperfections left from the first coat. fast forward to now the plaster comes in sheets much the same as sheetrock ex cept it is blue, and rightly called blueboard , after the hangers screw the bluboard to the wall and ceiling a team of plastererscome in and put a skim coat of plaster over the whol board, the joints require a heavier coat. After this coat dries in a couple of hoursor less the plasterers come back and apply a veneer thickness to the wall and dampen the plaster with a brush being waved in front of the board. Thus completing the plaster job. Now a oldtime plasterer like my brother-in-laws brother is a real plasterer and I was lucky enough to have him plaster my house when we built it, would walk off a job if they wanted him to use blueboard., as he is a old time plasterer who is an artist as he makes crown mouldings an other plaster designs on top of a coulple of inches thick.of base plaster. if you get a chance to see a real plaster job and a blueboard job you can tell the difference and both shine over sheetrock and compound job.
Previewing and predicting text content Previewing and predicting text content (PDF, 27 KB) Progression Tags: . RdComp The purpose of the activity To encourage acti…ve reading through the use of previewing and prediction. The learners preview a text in order to predict its likely content. The teaching points . Using text features to predict text content. . Making logical predictions from headings or from partial reading of a text. Resources . Copies of the selected text or extract. . An outline of the text, made by listing the headings and any major visual features. . Sticky notes (optional). The guided teaching and learning sequence 1. Present the text outline to the learners and ask them to predict what the text will be about. 2. Ask the learners to read one section of the text, then predict what information will be presented next. 3. As the learners read the next section, have them tick or make notes to indicate where they predicted accurately. Sticky notes are useful for this activity. 4. Discuss how the predictions could guide the learners' actual reading of the text. Follow-up activity
"When Sony introduced the world's first high definition television to the Japanese market in 1990, the high-tech sets cost $43,000. These televisions were purchased only by cu…stomer who could afford to pay a high price for the new technology. Sony rapidly reduced the price over the next several years to attract new buyers. By 1993, a 28-inch HDTV cost a Japanese buyer just over $6,000. In 2001, a Japanese consumer could buy a 40-inch HDTV for about $2000, a price that many more customers could afford. In this way, Sony skimmed the maximum amount of revenue from the various segments of the market.". Armstrong, G. and Kotler, P. (2008) Principles of Marketing (12th ed.) Will skim coating stop water seepage from an external wall and should you apply wall sealer before or after the skim coat?
If you can't solve the seepage problem, the next besrt thing is a water proofing product. Until you are sure you have a tight barrier against moisture, skim coating will be an… exercise in futility because it will just bubble up.
lath and mortar walls and ceilings have a greater flexibility than standard plaster. If you do plaster over it you firstly need to be very confident that the old mortar is sou…nd and fully adhered to the lath. You would also have to seal the ceiling well to stop the water in the plaster from literally being sucked out of the plaster. Regarding tiles. If you are thing about ceramic tile then NO!. The weight of the tiles would pull the mortar from the lath with great ease. It is defiantly better to either plasterboard directly to the old ceiling and using dry wall screws NOT NAILS screw directly to the joist not the late you can then put a good scrim tale over the joints and plaster accordingly. The very best option however, is ...............drop the old ceiling, re-board and plaster
