There is no system with which you can legally make money playing the roulette over the long run.

That is because every roulette spin is an unpredictable, independent, random event. The fact that eight blacks just came up DOESN'T mean that red is now much more likely. This assumption, in one form or the other, is a cornerstone in most roulette systems you can find on the web or elsewhere. Black is just as likely as it ever was (if this doesn't seem to make sense to you, please calculate the odds of 9 blacks in a row and then calculate the odds of a sequence of 8 blacks and one red - approx. 0,120061% for both cases on a double-zero roulette).

No matter how you choose to bet them, you will always lose on average 1 in 19 or 1 in 37 chips per spin, depending on whether you're playing double or single zero roulette.

So the banks "take" is about 2.5% in Europe and 5% in America per spin compared with the 20% take per race in Horse Racing. But there are a lot more spins than races.

I saw a television show that focused on a group of people that employed a system of "clocking the wheel" to gain an advantage over the house. At least one member of this group would be at a roulette wheel at all times making minimum bets for a specified period...let's say 24 hours, I don't remember the specifics. During this period, they would record the results of every single spin of the wheel for future analysis. All roulette wheels have some degree of imperfection, some more than others. If, after "clocking" for an extended period, the ball showed a tendency to come to rest in a particular section of the wheel with abnormal regularity, they would then start making larger bets, placing their bets on the numbers corresponding with the section of the wheel that had shown to be most likely to win on any given spin. While the casinos frowned on it, I don't believe there was anything illegal about it...all the casinos they played at eventually caught on, but no one was arrested. As I recall, they made over a million dollars employing this strategy. But, considering the number of people involved in the scheme and the amount of time and travel it took to make that profit, it wasn't nearly as lucrative as it seemed on the surface.

The best system is up for debate.

Some stick with there numbers, some people bet sections. Another popular bet would be on 1 bet on the color 1 bet on a section. Some people even have the nerve to do both colors and then the first 5 numbers which I am not a fan of by any means. There is a 2-3 percent chance for hitting each number so if you stick with a few split bets your chances are not that bad. Hitting one split is 1-2 about 1/16 and a few of those will do you justice.

Main thing for most people is stick to your strategy, hedge a few bets, and put some more on one number then the other so if you hit the little one, your bet is hedge and if you hit the big one it pays off even after some consecutive loses.

The reason it's called "gambling" is because it is all up to chance.

It is said that the monk who created the game went crazy trying to beat it. It is not possible to have a guaranteed system in roulette unless you are an expert at something called metaphysics or some sort of physics by which you can tell where the ball will land by the spin of the wheel, the spin of the dealer and etc.(that's just my theory tho)
