Been there hon, and have been 130lbs for 10 years now. The answer is simple. Move!!! Burn more calories than you take in. So, make yourself very busy so that you are not sitting around bored and eating because there is nothing better to do. It is hard to exercise when you are big, so walk- a couple miles or an hour a day- every day. You can eat whatever you want in moderation. Learn what a normal portion is. Try to keep your diet balanced. It took me a year and a half to lose 80 lbs. But, I have kept it off for 10 years. This is after battling my weight for 20 years! Excess weight for most people is due to their lifestyle. Change yours, and the benefits/results will come. First, determine if the weight is due to a medical condition; "morbid obesity" is a medical condition. The best place to find this out is to have a physical examination.

Second, if the weight is inappropriate to height and build, and it is not due to a medical condition, strict adherence to a diet plus daily exercise will be required. Not fad diets, either, but one which is recommended by your medical professional.

Third, determine if there are mental health reasons for excess weight gain; remember that both anorexia and morbid obesity can be caused by a mental health condition.

Fourth, don't lose sight of your objective -- say "150 lbs before next summer on the 1st of July". The dieter must set up a goal and keep to it.

Fifth, have faith in yourself and your loved ones. Use your will power -- when that starts to get low, ask your friends for encouragement, and intervention.

Lastly, don't bother to keep a record of "weight loss" like a spreadsheet tacked on the front of the fridge, it will only depress and possibly cause backsliding when there doesn't appear to be a swift loss of weight. Keep track of your body mass index, instead (see Wiki for answers on how to see BMI data).

By cutting back your calorie intake and drinking up to 8 glasses of water a day. Drinking more water increases your metabolism. Some type of exercise will greatly affect you as well, as simple as going for a walk daily.

Go on walks to start with and cut out all sugary and fatty snacks and instead eat fresh fruit. Once you lose enough weight go on light jogs then build up. Also, stay strong and say no to treats but don't deprive yourself of meals. Make sure your meals consist of a healthy piece of meat or fish, vegetables and some carbohydrates, the more you exercise the more carbohydrates you should have but I would not eat too many right now.

1. Watch portion sizes. We are so used to this "super size" culture that we don't even realize we are eating WAY too much. Buy smaller plates, and use kid-size cutlery; in the 70's these things were the normal sizes and the giant plates we see now (especially at restaurants) encourage over-eating. 2. Fill half your plate with veggies/fruit, and 1/4 lean protein, and about 1/4 for your carbs. (Don't even think about this whole Atkins thing; it's all about balance) 3. Exercise! Mix it up so you don't get bored. Go for a brisk walk; buy some weights; go for a run with your dog; go dancing; learn yoga; challenge yourself and sign up for a marathon; anything! Get creative! 4. If you are dating/married, let your partner dish out their own food and make sure you dish out your own: most people gain weight if they are in a relationship because we tend to put the same amount of food on both plates, when men in reality need to eat more than women so the women will just end up eating more. 5. Find substitutes for your snacking, and figure out why you are snacking in the first place. Do you snack when you are bored? Studying? Lonely? Sad? Think about other ways to deal with those emotions and triggers. Trying going for a run the next time you are feeling angry instead of eating. Maybe, instead of eating sugary treats, have an apple which is just as sweet but only about 80 calories. Pamela Anderson says she brushes her teeth whenever she gets a craving so that she has the minty taste in her mouth and she forgets all about her craving. 6. Come to peace with yourself! You will not lose weight if you are beating yourself up about it. You can only create positive change in your life if you accept yourself for who you are and accept your situation. Once you accept that, you can change it. You can't change something if you don't know where you're coming from. 7. Get at least 8 hours of sleep; studies have proven that females lose between 5-15 pounds in a short period of time just by getting the right amount of sleep. 8. Cut stress out of your life. Stress is the #1 factor in all sickness.

Answer 2

You should do this gradually, allowing a whole month for every 4 to 8 pounds you want to lose. Do not starve yourself, or skip meals, or try throwing up.

Here's a program for the period in which you want to lose weight:

Plenty of moderate aerobic exercise, no sweetened liquids at all, and no junk food at all. Preferably no sugar, and as little added salt and processed foods as possible. Eat 3 not-large-portioned meals/day; do not skip breakfast; and avoid sweet snacks. Limit your calories (best to consult a doctor or nutritionist concerning the amount), and weigh yourself 2-3 times/week. If you see your weight diminishing at a safe, reasonable rate (1-2 pounds/week), keep it up.

Once you've reached your target weight, increase your calorie intake somewhat. And you can then have small amounts of sweetened foods or junk food on occasion (if at all), along with your regular foods. But keep checking your weight 2-3 times/week.

Avoid crash diets, diet pills etc. Avoid fatty cuts of meat. Walk as much as possible. Bicycling and swimming are good too.

More guidelines:

Don't concentrate on specific foods so much as on a balanced, healthy diet plus exercise. Plenty of moderate exercise rather than intense exercise, which can damage your joints.

Good nutrition means eating what your body needs, while ingesting as few harmful things as possible. It has also been described as getting enough of each of the major food categories (grains, fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy, etc.; plus plenty of water).

This will vary somewhat from one person to another; and I don't believe that there's any universal diet that can be prescribed for everyone. Avoid best-sellers with their perennial fad diets.

In general, a healthy starting point could be a menu of whole grains, whole-wheat bread, a good amount of vegetables, some fruits and nuts, fish, lean meats (in not-large amounts), and some dairy. However, this must be tweaked according to one's lifestyle, age, health, weight and other factors at the outset; and also adjusted over time, as one sees what works for him/her in particular.

Also...whenever you feel queasy, nauseous, constipated or otherwise not completely well, try to remember what you've eaten over the last several hours or the last day. This is one method of adjusting one's food habits.

Getting a membership to a local rec center or ymca would be the best investment you could do. Most all places have programs that once you are a member you can join in for free! I joined my local ymca and I am there almost everyday and it's worked wonders for me! Of course eating healthy is also a big part of it as long as your dedicated those two things alone should help you a lot :)

That could depend on age. For example, is the girl a child or is the "girl" a fully-grown adult. Please feel free to ask the question again and include more detail about age. Alternatively, please see the page links further down this page, listed under Related Questions, and select what best suits you or the person in question.

How many calories should someone that is 290 lbs take in per day to lose 100lbs?

The amount of weight you want to lose has very little to do with how many calories your diet should allow. You set your daily allowance after gender, height and level of physical activity. Going below that level in order to lose weight faster will usually not help, as it can make your body believe that food is scarce which will cause it to hoard whatever you eat much more. At a ballpark value 1800-2000 cals/day for a male.
