I just replaced the bearing hub assembly on Chevy 2500 hd. I removed the front tire, removed the brake caliper and tie to the top of the a arm with a tie wrap to keep it out of the way. Then I removed the caliper mount, these bolts were very tight and had a lot of loc-tite on them, I had to us a 21mm socket with a breaker bar and cheater pipe to remove these two bolts. After removing the bracket, remove the Brake rotor. This will expose the anti locking brake sensor. The sensor has a plug near the top of the shock mount it will require removing a little bit of heat shield tape. Remember to remove the wire wire keepers so the wire will hang loose.( a new sensor came with the bearing hub) Behind the bearing hub there were 3- 15mm bolts which required me to use a great amount of force to remove also. (loc-tite) After removing these bolts the bearing hub can be removed by sliding it out. The hub for a 2500 sold for between $216 & $238 after checking around. The 1500 hub sells for about $165. I found that most auto part stores had them in stock. The old hub had stamped on the back not servicable. I have removed the bearing cap and fixing to remove the bearing lock nut and go to a bearing supply store to try find replacment bearings. I recommend using loc-tite freely wi hen reassembling as that you don't want to loose a front wheel while cruising down the road. The bolts on the 1500 will probably smaller and less of them. Good Luck and make sure you have your truck on secure jack stands as the truck will be rocking a little when you break those bolts loose.

Why would your 1999 silverado shake at 40 mph?

It might be the front hub assembly. My 2005 silverado shakes at 65mph when i went to change the brakes recently i noticed the whole assembly (with the brake caliper on and the wheel off) that it moved around way too much. I am still trying to determine if it is the whole hub assembly or wheel bearings.
