I'm thinking I'm going to have to make a tool to either lasso or clamp onto the inlet pipe in order to pull it up. Anybody know of such a tool already in existence? Please help. I can't get my water going again until I figure out how to get that pipe out so I can reconnect it to the pump.

I got it! I fashioned a small grapple with retractable tines, fashioned after a boat anchor, more or less. I anticipated that it might be difficult to remove, so I used spring steel just strong enough to hold the weight of the pipe and strainer, but flexible enough that, with sufficient force, it would bend so I could remove it afterward. It took a few tries, but I finally got a hold of the pipe and pulled it up enough to get me hands on it. I'm elated!
