The basic difference can be seen in their purposes and the resulting appropriate levels of support stability and cushion.

An "all terrain" shoe is based on a classic running shoe design:

- Higher-heel, lower-footbed (for forward rocking-movement)
- Cushion in Heel and Ball-of-foot
- Roll-up toe
- Flexible forefoot

Additionally, "all terrain" shoes offer a more aggressive outsole tread for better traction and some models also offer a solid-plate in the midsole to protect your feet from the shock of sharp surfaces.

As the name might suggest, cross-trainer shoes are meant for a little bit of everything. Go to the gym, do some aerobics or run a couple miles, cross-trainers can serve well. Cross trainers generally offer more lateral support than running/walking shoes-- like a tennis or Basketball shoe, but at the same time are typically too rigid and supportive for the long runs or all day comfort you might get out of a running or walking shoe.

I hope that helps...

There are shoes which are designed specifically for walking as well as shoes which are designed specifically for running and it is important to select a shoe which is designed for your activity of choice. Walking shoes are usually stiffer and heavier than running shoes. This is because the walking motion does not require as much flexibility as the running motion. Also heavier shoes provide more cushioning for the foot. Although it may seem as though runners would need more cushioning because of the greater impact, runners typically choose lighter shoes because heavier shoes can make striding more difficult for runners but does not have this same impact on walkers. If you are unsure about the type of shoe to select for your activity consider visiting a store with a wide variety of athletic shoes and a knowledgeable staff which can help you make the right choice.

u can walk with running shoes but its not advisable to run with walking shoes. rgds Raghu

Cross trainers are meant to be used in a variety of athletic activities, such as running, tennis, walking, weight lifting, and so on, hence the name "cross" trainer. The soles will show features of the many sports it is meant to be used for. Running shoes are meant specifically for running. The soles, cushioning, and support is specific to running. If you intend on doing just running, then get a running shoe, as it will be best for your body. If, however, you will be doing a variety of sports, then you might want to consider cross trainers.

Trainers are mainly made for running because they are light and are mainly used by athletes as there light and specially designed for running.

What are the differences between running shoes and walking shoes?

Running shoes are designed for forward motion, with features like cushioning and stability to absorb impact and support quick movement. Walking shoes prioritize stability and comfort, often with a more flexible sole, as they don't require the same level of cushioning or shock absorption. Wearing the right type of shoe for your activity can help prevent discomfort and injury.
