∙ 9y agoA computer mouse is categorized as a "tracking device", and the first type of "mice" were typically "trackballs", a ball that is connected to a series of sensors indicating its position and movement. Then comes optical and laser mice. Optical mice uses a high-speed camera to take many pictures of the surface it stands on and compares each image to the previous to determine if it moved and if so, in what direction and by how much. A laser mouse almost works in the same theory but does not require the use of a camera or compare images - it uses a laser sensor to determine movement and direction.
