The koala's biome is eucalypt woodland and bushland.

Koalas are particular to Eastern Australia, and can be found along the eastern and south-eastern coastal regions. They live in cool temperate zones, right up to hot, sub-tropical zones. Koalas live in a range of habitats, as long as there are abundant eucalyptus trees of the sort they prefer. They are found on coastal islands, tall eucalypt forests, bushland and low woodlands inland.

Koalas are not found in rainforests, nor in grasslands or deserts. These biomes do not support the eucalyptus trees which koalas favour. They are also not found in Alpine or snowy regions.

Koalas live in the native eucalyptus bushland of Australia, both inland and near the coastal areas of the eastern states. They do climb other native trees, such as acacia (wattle) and melaleuca.

Koalas are primarily arboreal, living high in gum trees in the temperate zone.

There are about 60 different species of kangaroo in Australia, and they each have unique adaptations for different biomes. Different species can live in all parts of Australia. Kangaroos live in a variety of climates ranging from sub-Alpine to savanna grassland to temperate bushland and coastal heath. Some varieties of kangaroos seem to enjoy swimming, whilst others are just as happy in the dry mulga scrub. Tree kangaroos live in tropical rainforest biomes.

Many larger species of kangaroos such as the red kangaroo, commonly said to live in the desert, cannot survive in the sandy desert at all. There is insufficient food or water for them to survive. However, they can certainly live in semi-arid areas where there are permanent waterholes, and where the vegetation is soft and juicy enough for them to eat.
