a 9 yr old shouldn't stay at home alone. the best age is 11 because that's when they mature and are more responsible to be left at home because 9 your still little and you don't wanna have the worrys of a 9 yr old at home. Plus theres a lotta weirdos out there, so you wanna make sure that you really reallly feel that your 9 yr old should stay home alone. many parents would agree that 9 is still young

There is no law in Connecticut regulating the age at which a child may be left home alone. The decision is a judgment call on the part of parents.

Most parents say about 11-12 years old. But, some state laws say a child must be atleast over the age of 14 to leave the house alone or stay in the house alone. My parents respect this law. Some children leave the house at a younger or stay at home at a younger age too. But, if you want to leave the house alone you must be back before dark (law). If you want to stay at home...the minimum age would be 11 through about 12. Thirteen and fourteen year olds are more capable of controling their actions. No offense to any younger kids. There are very few states in the U.S. with legal minimum ages for children home alone, but many state agencies have published guidelines. Georgia, Illiniois, Maryland and Oregon are a few of the states with specific ages mentioned in their laws.12 years of age appears to be the most common recommendation. A child under the age of 16 or 17 should not be left alone for several days. Some children at 16 shouldn't be left alone either and this should be determined by how responsible they are.
