She was just referred to as "the witch." In one adaptation she was called "frau (something)kinder". The word to replace "something" is the word for "dead" in German. Someone fluent in German please replace the "something" with the translation of "dead" from the German lanquage. The intent of the witch was to kill the kids and eat them. The children over power the witch and live to go home.
