Pollyanna Whittier, a minister's daughter, grew up poor in the missionary and after her parents died, she went to live with her rich - and very strict - Aunt Polly.

Pollyanna was given her own bedroom and a new wardrobe. She also met and made new friends with the townspeople. She taught a grumpy town to smile and laugh again.

After her legs were paralyzed in an accident, Aunt Polly was forced to change her "mean" ways and married her childhood sweetheart, Dr. Chilton.
