Only a small percentage of US Citizens have ever visited Alaska for a Holiday, but it does have a very high repeat rate of return visitors. Alaska grows on you and even if the first visit was only a small snapshot of the State resulting from a one week cruise or a two week guided hunting or fishing excursion, for many, an interest is created in seeing more and more of what it has to offer.
Visiting Alaska is, because of its vast size, a challenge that cannot be completed in a single trip lasting a month. The American Southwest requires more then a flight into Denver and a drive south on the Interstate 25 corridor. Far to much would be missed.
Perhaps a greater tragedy is the failure of Alaskan's to have fully explored what is available to be seen within Alaska. The great majority have never been past the Arctic Circle or have visited the Aleutian Islands. The great bulk of Alaskans are city dwellers with little personal knowledge of the wonders of Alaska.
