INTRODUCTION
There are four main aspects of health which are physical health, mental health, social health and spiritual health. Each of them plays an important and specific role in maintaining good health in a child right at an early age. Nowadays there are a high percentage of people who are suffering from non-communicable disease due to wrong life style and the main objective of the government is to grow a healthy population. At primary level the curriculum of Health education and Physical education have been designed to provide learning experiences that will help students realize their potential in life. It also inculcates good eating and health habits in children during their pivotal years and obviously they will grow up healthier.
Health and Physical Education can promote the different health aspects of children.
Teaching Physical health like basic hygiene such as how to brush teeth well, flossing, bathing daily and washing hands with soap and water are very important. The pupils are made aware of its importance and consequences of bad hygiene. They are also taught that having good hygiene is not only important but also maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly to keep them in shape and away from disease. While teaching and encouraging them to put these advices in practice, there will be definitely a change in them. Physically the children will have an improvement in their mood and attitude. There will be also a change in their physical appearance, brighter skin, shiny hair and good eyesight etc.
Health Education and Physical Education help also in the normal development and proper growth of a child which naturally will result in a sound mental health. Thus, it will have definitely positive effects on the school performance and will lead to better concentration, reduced stress and disruptive behaviours. While performing well at school, a child will love school and will prevent him or her from absenting. It also creates a sense of belonging.
Feeling connected and welcomed is essential to children's positive adjustment, self-identification, and sense of trust in others and themselves. It builds strong, positive relationships among students, school staff, and parents. Social health at primary level helps in the normal emotional development in a child and which leads to maturity of mental life in an adult. It also promotes love and security in a child. Thus the latter grows up into a useful member of the society. This child will have positive and healthy behaviours and naturally he or she will become optimistic and confident in life.
The mind, the body and the spirit in human beings are interconnected and therefore spiritual health at primary level is very important. It nurtures the heart and soul of a child and makes he or she experiences unconditional love, faith, joy, hope, forgiveness and optimism. It also enables the child to feel connectedness to self, others and a higher power or larger reality. It also provides a child with a sense of resiliency, personal fulfillment and inner peace.
By treating physical education as education for the body as a whole. You have to be able to incorporate health education into physical education (and vise versa) if you wish to have sustainable and consistent results.
Phs education teaches you how to exercise and be fit while education teaches you thing such as science so you can choose a carree and not be clueless of what your doing.
