Actin and myosin insulates the nerve sheath and prevents nerve signals from boundcing around all over the body. They help to direct the direction of where the nerve signal goes and increases the efficiency of our nervous system. In some dieseases the myosin degenerates and nerve signals are no longer able to be transmitted. Therefore, the person is left in a vegetative state.

By eating too much cake, the actin and myosin enters the body and after a long hour of sitting the will explode and destroying some muscle cells making it become shorter and cause muscle contraction

Actin major functions in cells:

  • To form microfilaments to give mechanical support to cells, and provide trafficking routes through the cytoplasm to support signal transduction.
  • To allow cell motility in cells which undergo amoeboid motion using pseudopods (see actoclampin molecular motors) and phagocytosis, for example of bacteria by macrophages.
  • In metazoan muscle cells, to be the scaffold on which myosin proteins generate force to support muscle contraction.
  • In non-muscle cells, to be a track for cargo transport myosins (non-conventional myosins) such as myosin V and VI.

Myosin is the prototype of a molecular motor-a protein that converts chemical energy in the form of ATP to mechanical energy, thus generating force and movement. The most striking variety of such movement is muscle contraction, which has provided the model for understanding actin-myosin interactions and the motor activity of myosin molecules.

Myosin is the more active of the two. Myosin looks like a two-headed twisted Golf club. It reaches up and grabs a hold of the actin molecule and pulls it towards the center of the sarcomere. Actin plays a very passive role. It doesn't do much but get pulled on by the mysosin.
