Since this question was in the pet category, I don't know if you mean dog food or not, nor do I know if it should be recategorized. But if it is commercial dog food, then the package should tell you how to store it, and for how long it will stay good. If it is home-cooked liver, then it should be kept no longer than three days, whether for yourself or your pet. And, of course, always refrigerate cooked foods within two hours after cooking. Contrary to common belief, pets can get sick from food borne illnesses, just as people do.

Two to three days if covered tightly with cling or foil. Four to five days if covered with a layer of butter. Suitable for freezing. Best quality up to two months.
