The creature you're probably referring to is the Dewback. The Dewback is a large, reptilian like creature that can surive several weeks without water. Despite their large teeth and menacing stature, Dewbacks are Herbivores, feeding mostly on the desert plants that scarcely grow on Tatooine's harsh desert floor. In some extreme cases, Dewbacks have been recorded to eat the remains of animals that have already been eaten by carnivores, mainly Krayt Dragons. Because Krayt Dragons require so much food each day, even a starving Dewback that would resort to meat and bones, would only get a small amount, if any.
