I have found what someone believes to be a silent butler. It is tornished beyond retoration . It is marked F.B Rogers. Is it of any value. Trade mark 1883 or 1893 (not at my disposal at the moment) It has the number 171 below the trade mark. The top seems to be cooper based . My question is what is the base made of cooper or brass plated. It sands off looking like brass.
I also have a Wm. A. Rogers Heirloom Sterling flatware set and have had difficulty finding reference to actual sterling silver rather than silver plated sets and therefore any idea of value.. Most Heirloom value estimates appear to be for items made after Oneida purchased Heirloom (from Wm. A. Rogers Co.) in 1929/1930 ~ All/most of which are sliver plated.. Please let me know if you have had any luck in determining worth.
We have a complete set of 12 "Precious" - Does anyone have an idea of it's value?

IS stands for International Silver (Company). FB Rogers, Wm Rogers, and Rogers Bros. (or Rogers & Sons) were some of the American silverplate manufacturers that were combined into the International Silver Company in 1898. The IS mark indicates the flatware is silverplate, rather than sterling.
I have a full set of WM A. Rogers AA heavy Oneida LTD. Flatware... It says on the back of the knives "STAINLESS". I hope this answers your question. I have a similar set of flatware and the "Stainless" on the knife means the blade is stainless. However, the handle and other parts of set could be stainless or silverplate. WM A Rogers did mostly silver plated flatware, not sterling silver. If it tarnishes it is most likely silver-plated.
The Rogers Bros. silverware is silver plated flatware. IS means your set was made after Rogers Bros. was acquired by International Silver Company, around 1898.For more information see Related Links, below.
The value of a set of 1947. Rogers Brothers flatware is dependent upon the condition of the flatware. The flatware can be worth as much as $1000 for a full set

Considering that most FB Rogers products are silver-plated rather than sterling, probably very little. Check for the pattern number (not 1883, which is part of the maker's mark). The hollow ware sterling registered pattern numbers are 118, 142, 144, 149, 164, 250, 400, 700 and 1636. You will need to get the flatware weighed and appraised locally to determine the scrap value. You may want to check eBay to determine if the flatware is worth more sold at auction than for its silver content.

Unless the items are clearly marked Sterling they are silver plated. Rogers made lots of silver plate over the years, and the date is the patent date for the pattern, not the year they were made.
It is from 1929, and it was made by Wm. Rogers.
