The W is not a mint mark. It's the initial of the coin's designer, A. A. Weinman. On coins issued before 1968, the mint mark - if there is one - is located on the reverse side. In the case of the dime it's near the word ONE at the bottom of the design.
1944 dimes remain fairly common collectibles, so unless it's uncirculated it's only worth its current silver value, around a dollar.
