I use AVG for anti virus and when I was reading about some of the other Downloader trojans, I found one that said AVG found it in C:\System Volume but scan after scan found the comp to be clean. I took the advice that someone listed for getting rid of it and stopping that annoying pop up. First, if you are running XP, you need to disable your restore, then restart your comp, then once you have rebooted, enable restore again. It worked for me, no more pop ups and all scans come up with nothing!
virus virus
It's not really a virus...
If you are running XP, and you obviously are, you need to get rid of everything that is stored in the restore folder. First, disable system restore, then reboot your comp with it off, then enable it again. Everything that was saved will be gone and so will the virus. It worked for me and stopped the pop ups saying it was there. I scanned with AVG, MicroTrend Housecall and also the Symantec scan and came up clean!

Downloader is an old virus, but a brand new variant just hit the streets: Downloader-AYB. Is that the one that got you? Have you tried booting to DOS (Command Prompt) and renaming the file before booting into Windows?
The name would suggest that it is a virus!!
The spyware program 'PestPatrol' will remove it.
