This can be quite a common occurrence in cats. There is a name for this condition & I cannot bring the word to my mind right now. It is due to a thyroid disorder most of the time. It is not called mange. Mange is caused by a mange mite, either the sarcoptic or demodex mite and this is not the condition the cat has. You do need to take your cat into your Veterinarian to have it checked though and he will do the necessary blood tests & treat with the appropriate medications.

∙ 13y agoPet hair-loss can be related to a variety of different diseases or disorders but two of the most common reasons are mange or Allergies. If it is just on your cat's back legs, it is likely allergies-this would be a good guess if you cat is rubbing against things or scratching or biting the area incessantly. Either way, your best bet is to take him to the vet to make sure it is not a more serious condition.

∙ 12y agoHi ,my cat has the same problem . And he still has this problem , I recommend taking him to the vet . Signs are fleas,mites,and sometimes cat cancer or allergies . My cat is losing hair and weight . I hope you the best !

∙ 12y agoIf it is new or it is fireworks night, it is most likely to be stressed, get a diffuser. If not, it might be an allergy or irritation. Before you do anything, go to your vet to check. Mine is and the vet thinks it may have an allergy, but my cat does have kidney proplems :(

∙ 14y agoCheck for fleas, on most animals with tails there is a little fold of skin at the top of the base of the tail. Fleas have a liking for this spot.

∙ 13y agoTry treating it for fleas, or maybe it's cancer, (I'm serious, cats can get cancer.) take it to the vet IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my cat also having the same problem. from my observation, this may due to her old age (for my cat's case) there may be other reasons as well. for example allergic to certain kind of food, and etc. if your cat is severely losing her hair on her front legs or any part of the body, do take her to the vet. but if the condition is not severe, then it is a normal condition and the hair will grow back later on.
