Unbolt the bell housing and pull clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. Will need to remove input bushing from crank or T conv wont fit into crank. Replace with a flex plate Install torqe converter in trans being sure to turn convertor into pump. bolt up auto trans. Will need to change raditor to auto for cooling lines or add a aftermarket cooler in front of rad. Will also need to add a floor shifter or change steering column over to auto column. Also will have to make sure carb has fitting for detent cable. Depending on tail shaft length will have to change front yoke if same length or get diff d line if diff tail shaft length.

transfer case will not bolt to the t56, its 2wd only. would have to fab up a remote or divorced t-case setup or a custom tailshaft($$$) , or run 2wd.

Yes it is possible. You would need to mod the exhuast system, along with the intake, because of the more airflow. The radiator setup will need to be replaced for the intercooler to be put in. From there, you would need to also get the computer modded to increase the fuel to the injectors along with the ignition. After all these are done, run a flush through your radiator and tranny. The tranny, because the extra torque and horsepower will not likely set in properly if the tranny is running old fluid, which will cause a tranny failure, resulting in it being replaced, concluding that this work would be a waste of time.

A general number for timing is around 10 but that can change based on the engine setup. The idle speed also depends on the set up but its about 900-1000 and 700-800 in gear with a stock engine.

The numbers refer to the engine's displacement, the 3.1L has 0.3L more. The 3.1L has about 10 more horsepower and gets better mileage with the right transmission. We have a 1987 Celebrity that we put a 3.1L engine in. The boost in performance is noticeable, as is the increased mileage.
