The deadliest storm was the great Galveston Hurricane of 1900, it caused a 20ft surge that washed ashore a 17ft island with 50,000 people on it. You can look up what happened next. Katrina was the most devastating however.

Is hurricane Katrina bigger than hurricane sandy?

Yes but Katrina was stronger than Ike . Yess Ike was bigger then Katrina who did more damage well Katrina did it hit a city Ike hit Crystal beach and if you go look at the pictures at cystal before and after only maybe every mile a couple of houses still stand well lets stop talking about the aftermath lets got to facts. FACT #1 Ike was to times bigger then Rita and Katrina..... FACT #2 Katrina was stronger in winds by 30 miles an hour not that big of a difference but in FACT #3 Ike storm surge was a Cat5 surge as big as it gets now Katrina was only a 3 but still that is big.... Fact 4 Ike was a little bit smaller then the State of Texas it was so big at one time it was hitting Mexico,Texas,Louisiana.Mississppi.and part of Florida at the same time now that big... now if Ike would of hit the same spot at the same time and lets act like Katrina hasn't even happened yet ok soo if Ike hit the same spot and the same time Katrina did Ike storm surge would of been bad the winds would be one thing at 120mph and gust up to 150 yea and another FACT Ike was the slowest storm to ever hit the U.S it hit Texas 10:38pm and winds were down at 45mph at 11am the next moring winds were down to 25 at 2pm that same day and at 3:30 winds were down to mph soo yes Katrina was bigger in wind speed by 30mph and gust by 10mph but Ike had bigger Storm Surge lasted the longest and was the biggest sooo it would hit Texas and Florida at the same time soo that is all the Facts ok and to sum everything u Rita that hit in 2005 that pounded Texas it was bigger in winds and storm surge and in size then Katrina only reason why Katrina is a big deal is it was the first Hurricane to hit new Orleans and come on new Orleans is under sea level and there sea wall were old out of date and can only with stand a Cat2 thank you and i will be posting more answer later have a nice day God Bless!!!

How strong do hurricanes hit land?

Depends on the hurricane, normally what category it is. For instance, category 5 hurricanes have the fastest wind speeds that hurricanes can get up to. It doesn't depend on size because if you look at Hurricane Andrew, it was tiny compared to some other hurricanes, but being a category 5, it caused a lot of damage, and is now the second costliest hurricane.I said that it normally depends on the category, right? Well, not always. Look at Hurricane Katrina, or Hurricane Mitch. Hurricane Katrina was a category 3 hurricane when it made landfall and is the costliest hurricane of all time. Katrina is more than 3 times as much as Hurricane Andrew! And Hurricane Mitch was only a category 1 when it made landfall! But Mitch caused a great deal of damage from a lot of rain causing mudslides that could bury one's head! So in this case, I think it is where the hurricane strikes, because if Mitch hadn't struck Mexico (I think), then it might have not been so affective. Same thing for Katrina. If she had hit, oh I don't know, Texas, maybe, then it might have not flooded New Orleans!Hope this helped!

What is the comparence of crime in new orleansbefore and after Hurricane Katrina?

Comparence is not a word so we'll assume illiteracy is on the rise in the post-Katrina world. Now if you are looking for a "comparison," look at the FBI's UCR report before and after 2005. Before you tackle that, I'd try to improve your spelling and grammar skills.

How deep was the water in New Orleans from Katrina?

Some areas saw little, if any, flooding during and after Katrina. Other parts, such as Lakeview and the Ninth Ward had over 10 feet in certain parts. Actually in some parts the water level was up to 15 feet. You have to look at this. New Orleans is like a soup bowl. It is 28 feet under sea level. If you would like some live footage of Katrina please watch video link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuV_HhukioY&feature=related

How can you look like Katrina?

How can i get a hurricane named after me?

No; hurricanes are named off a list determined before the season even begins. It's possible that a hurricane name will be retired and one day replaced with your name, though. You can also check on Wikipedea if your name is on there. Just type in in the search, Hurricane _______ <---Your name goes there. If you get a page that has more than just one hurricane (i.e. 1994 Atlantic Hurricane season) then you should look in that page's table of contents to see your name (they are in alphabetical order) If your name is like a really well know hurricane, such as Hugo or Katrina or Andrew, than congrats!!
