We first meet him when he is bringing news to Duncan of the battle in Fife and Cawdor's treachery, then he brings news to Macbeth that he is now Thane of Cawdor, then he brings messages to Lady Macduff, and finally brings news to Macduff that his family has been slaughtered.

The news was disappointing to Macbeth, who was planning to kill Macduff. But he quickly adapted to the change in situation. He decided to have Macduff's entire family and household slaughtered.
