The most recent president that saw active military service was George H. W. Bush, who left office in 1983. (George W. Bush was in the national guard. Clinton and Obama had no military duty.) Prior to Bush41 , all eight of the Presidents after Roosevelt in 1945 saw active duty in the military and all but Carter had wartime service.
I count 28 out of 43 which is 65 per cent. Some of the 28 such as Fillmore, Buchanan,
