Parakeets (budgies) need a wide variety of different foods to stay healthy. Unfortunately many people still keep budgies on all seed diets, which dos not provide a balanced diet, which in turn makes an unhappy, unhealthy budgie. But if seeds are so bad for budgies why have we assumed that this is all they need? Budgies are native to Australia, and all our domesticated budgies originate from there. In the wild they spend much time foraging for food. Budgies do eat seeds in the wild, but this seed is much different to what we feed them. In the wild, the seeds are fresh and young, and have not lost much of their goodness. Packaged seeds which we buy for our budgies are old and brown. The reason most people are still feeding their budgies old seeds is because it "has always been this way". In the wild budgies forage for food. Seed has a high fat content and because the wild counterparts are continuously on the move, foraging, migrating and so on, they get much more exercise than a domestic budgie would. Feeding only seeds to a budgie with no out of cage time will lead to many health problems, obesity and a shortened lifespan. If seed is so bad what should I feed my budgies? The best choice is a pelleted (or crumbles, nuggets ect.) budgie food. Remember conversion from seed to pellets is a long, hard process but its definitely worth it. Budgies also should have a variety of vegetables, fruit and other fresh foods. You can find lists of safe foods on the internet (note: parsley is safe! Mine love it). Foraging One of the main activities for wild budgies is- foraging. This provides stimulation for the bird, they are not bored. Without stimulation budgies can develop mental problems. Be creative, hide treats in hard to get places, slowly add more and more beads to your birds food bowl so they have to work with their food (never do this straight away, they may not look around the beads and die from starvation) Seeds Just because old seeds are bad for your fids (feathered kids) it doesn't mean that fresh ones aren't Did you know that the packaged seeds can actually still germinate? (yes, I've done it). You could always grow them and give them to your birds as a treat. Wild grass seeds and millet are both something budgies love. Some people feed a 50-50 diet of seeds and pellets. This is entirely up to you. Grit This is a very controversial matter, some people argue that because budgies eat seeds they need it to help grind them up in their stomachs. But budgies do not eat seeds whole, they hull them, so grit is not needed. To much grit can actually cause health problems and in some cases death, so feeding grit is not advised. == Parakeet food -- they mainly eat seeds -- can be purchased at most pet stores (and even at Walmart).
You have to feed it baby wild bird food. You can get at a pet store and get a syringe to feed it with. Then, you have to add warm water, but make sure the water is not too hot. Then, mix up the food with the water, and you load it up into the syringe. Then when you feed it, it will let you know how much it wants to eat. The mother will feed it.
My parakeets love cooked brown rice with green peas, shredded carrots, small sized pasta, applesauce or shredded apples (or other shredded fruit), small whole grains, shredded sweet potato, shredded zuccini/squash, healthy dry cereal such as Grape Nuts, etc (healthy, nutritious human foods), mixed in. I make this basic soft food mix differently each time using a variety of foods. Use frozen veggies (not canned) and/or fresh foods. Keets also like corn bread, multi/whole grain breads, and I also provide pelleted food 24/7, as well as some seed AFTER they have eaten their healthy food (they don't get their seed unless they eat their nutritious food first). Birds won't eat food they don't recognize as food, therefore, you have to keep offering the new food every day.
I fed my baby gallah and my baby cockateil soggy weetbix, small small amount of vegemite and warm water and mashed budgie seed mix and then chuck it in a food processer and blend it all together. Get a needleless seringe and feed it to them through that, or an eyedropper, you really in just a thin tube that you can force it into their mouth with because both my babies were very recuctant to have non mummy vomit in their mouth but once its in they swallow it. Be careful though because if you push the tube in too far or the mixture is squeezed into their lungs they will die and you only squeeze a little bit of the mixture in at a time, it will take about half an hour to feed the bird propperly, till their crop (tummy) is full. The crop is located just above the breast bone on a bird and it puffes out when they are full.
Baby parrots should be hand raised either by a qualified breeder, or someone who is familiar with the anatomy of birds. Baby birds are fed by tube injection of soft food. Since birds hold a quantity of food in an area called "the crop", it is vital to not over feed baby birds.
Yet baby parrots need highly nutritious food to thrive. If you find a baby parrot in the wild that has gone from the nest too early, try to return the bird to the nest, or take the bird to a wildlife rehabilitator, an exotic animal vet, or consult a local zoo or bird rescue group. Please do not try to feed a baby parrot unless you have experience doing so.
With a few exceptions, you can feed most parrots anything you would eat. They will take what they want and ignore the rest. Birds learn what to eat by watching other birds. Since you are a part of their flock, you may be able to get it to try new things by eating it in front of them and offering it to them in your mouth. Seeds, fruit, cooked vegetables, small amounts of meat or cooked eggs. Chocolate, avocados, and heavily spiced food should not be given to them.
There is a powder formula that you mix with water and feed them. It is like thin cereal. Feed it to them with a syringe.
Seeds.
Mother lovebirds may or may not feed a baby that is returned after a day. Parrots are intelligent creatures, but there is no way to determine if she will accept the baby back. It's best to leave them with her.
parrots have a family when a parrot lady have a baby
Parrots do not feed their young with milk.
NO!
Parrots are birds and all birds lay eggs
Parrots have several predators. Their main ones are birds of hawks, pythons, boas, eagles, and owls. Monkeys will eat parrot eggs and baby parrots.
expands stomach and it explodes, feed it beans!
A parrots cousin is still another parrot. This is because the parrots mother or father's brother or sister had a baby parrot.
Regurgitation is a normal act for parrots. It is how they feed their young. Parrots will regurgitate their partially digested food for their chicks.
If they want to. Just don't feed them mushrooms, that isn't good for them.
Yes, snakes that feed with meat will eat any meat at their reach.
It all depends on the species of parrot, their are small parrots and large parrots so they are all different sizes when young and old
