Actually Hermes sided with the greeks. In The Odyssey, he helps Odysseus on his journey. There are only 11 gods here
The gods always took part in human enterprises. Aphrodite's son was a Trojan, so she sided with them. Athena sided with the Greeks.
The Trojan war took a long time to end as Troy had a huge strong walland the gods helped both sides.
Aeneas was a Trojan inside the city at the time of the 10-year-long Trojan war. He had married Creusa, son of King Priam, making him a prince of Troy. At the climax of the battle, he was asked by the gods of Troy to take them and some of the Trojan population to a new land where he could found them a new city. Therefore he did not fight in the final battle, but yes, as a Trojan of this time period, he was in the Trojan war.
No the Greek gods were not "grumpy". In fact, most of them were quite cheerful. However, they tended to take sides in mortal wars. It is believed that in WW2 the Greek gods took sides. They don't fight in the mortals' wars, but they start their own wars with each other because they disagree about who should/will be victorious in the mortal wars. In general though, the gods were not grumpy. They merely had minor discrepancies that caused anger and irritation occasionally leading to wars.
Beyond the root of Greek mythology, there are plot parallels between the two epics; the narrative is an account of the Trojan war (wherein the Gods do take sides), while the film is struggle where the question of divine authority creates conflict. In Clash of the Titians the Gods present mankind with a bargain of sacrifice, the princess, too prove their obedience and avoid punishment. In the Iliad a Trojan priest offers a financial prize for his daughter who has been captured by Greeks. Like the Titans the Trojans had once been the more powerful.
The Odyssey takes place immediately following the Trojan war.
