Humans are social beings and we always try desperately to 'fit in' the world around us.
When you are a part of a group you feel pressurized because you have to ensure that you are 'like' others in group. So knowingly or unknowingly you try to copy others around you (mostly ones considered ideal most people in that group). This usually causes a lot of pressure, especially if you are a teen as social recognition means lot at that age.
To cope with peer pressure one has to ensure that they understand that everyone has not been made the same and therefore there are few people who are good at something and others who are good at other things. It helps a lot if you befriend people who share you fields of excellence or similar to your fields of excellence.
