Actually if I remember correctly there are 3 different sizes of (male) torx sockets you'll need. A T-50 and a T-40 for the bolts going through the water pump housing and then once you have remove the water pump there is one size smaller and i believe it is a T-20. Either way you can purchase a set of torx at your local parts storew and all three come in the one set.(Its cheaper than buying them individualy) Later Joe!
next to the timing chain you will find it in the cover on front of engine where the water pump is mounted they call it the timing chain cover you will have to remove this cover to get at it
timing chain is inside the timing chain cover which is located between block and water pump. the water pump mounts to the front of timing case There is a cover that is behind the water pump... The timing chain is under that cover.
The timing chain cover on a 4.6L is the whole front of the engine. drl
The seal on the timing chain cover must be pressed out and the replacement pressed in.
It can get in through the timing cover. That does car does not have a "timing belt" cover, but it has a "timing chain cover." There is a BIG difference, as a timing belt cover does not have coolant and oil running through it, but a timing chain cover does have both coolant and oil running through it.
The timing chain for a 1993 Ford escort is located on the front of the engine. It is under the timing chain cover.

Yes , it has a timing CHAIN
your oil pump in located in the timing cover simply replace the timing cover. while your in there you might want to do the timing chain You can replace the pump by removing it from the timing chain cover. There are five bolts that hold it into the cover. Remove them with a T30 torx socket and swap the pump gear/outer ring. Get a Haynes or Chilton manual to get the proper clearance specs and install accordingly. It'll be a little cheaper than replacing the whole cover. I'd recommend changing the timing chain and gears as well, since you're looking at them anyway.
Timing chain cover is where the water pump hooks to on the very front of the engine block.
