The first time you approach it, keep a distance away with your head down. Let the horse approach you and sniff you over. Then, continuing this for a while, you may raise your hand and try to touch it. If that doesn't work, keep trying!
Tempt it in with treats. Try to get it as close as possible to you when you feed it, to establish a sort of trust.
But mainly, leave them alone!
