You have two sacroiliac joints, one on the left side and one on the right side of the back part of the pelvis just below the belt line at the upper area of the buttocks.

The sacroiliac joint is where the sacrum (tailbone) connects with the ilium (hip bone) to make a slightly moveable joint. Since the sacroiliac joint is primarily a weight-bearing joint, the two surfaces of bone that come together are basically flat but with slight irregularity to form a bean-shaped joint surface. For this reason only slight sacroiliac joint movement is allowed, thought to be from 2-12 degrees of movement that allows the small side-to-side sway of the pelvis when a person walks.

The sacroiliac is not jointed, the bones are fused together and are located in the lowest part of your spinal column as part of the support of the pelvis bone. They also offer some degree of protection to the abdominal cavity from the backside.
