Almost anyone - - from any walk of life.

None were born into it. We do not perform infant conversion or baptism just because we may have children. (We would consider such to be 'by force', not 'by choice'.)

By far, most of our nearly 8 million active members were the following type of people:

  • Catholics, Baptists, Mormons, Pentecostal, Lutheran, tribal religions; atheists.
  • Pastors, Priests, Nuns, Scholars, Tribal Chiefs.
  • Doctors, Lawyers, Professors, NASA people, Politicians; Military people.
  • Teachers, Carpenters, Garbage collectors, Electricians, Computer geniuses.
  • Teenagers, middle age, older; male, female; married people; whole families.
  • Smokers, Drug addicts, Thieves, Liars, Abusers, Homosexuals, Prostitutes; Penitentiary convicts; people who were just 'living together' without the benefit of being legally married.
  • Rich people, poor people, homeless people; handicapped people both physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  • People who didn't worship Jehovah God before. Some worshiped 3 gods of their trinity; others worshiped Jesus; others worshiped an 'eternal tormenting' god.
  • People who used to cherish Christmas; and used to celebrate birthdays, Easter, Halloween, etc.

Of course, upon becoming one of Jehovah's people, -- many will need to change some things in their life. We don't just baptize anyone off the street, who may come down off the bleachers at a revival meeting.

Similarly to most religions, in my experience by far the majority of today's Witnesses who get baptized are the children of Witness parents.

Of those who come into the religion as adults, ex Catholics make up a sizable percentage.

Can a Jehovah witness date someone who is studying the faith?

There are many different type of Christianity based religions. Jehovah's Witnesses are one themselves. Being a christian is basically about believing that Christ was alive, and that he did come to earth at one point in time. The difference about Jehovah's witnesses and some other Christians is that Jehovahs witnesses believe that Christ was Jehovah's son, not God himself. And so, to answer your question, Jehovahs witnesses do not date girls or boys from different religions, Christian or not. If someone were to be in a relationship with a person who has a different god, it would almost be like he believes in that god as well. If a witness were to date a girl or boy of a different religion, it would be because he or she is not truly worshiping Jehovah.

What is a chief witness?

In relation to court procedures, there's no such thing as chief witnesses. Normally this term is given to a witness who, without his testimony, the government or the plaintiff does not have a case. This type of witness is also known as a star witness, generally for the government. But there are star defense witnesses as well.
