Actually better to ask what line ofmanuscripts the Latin Vulgate relies upon and what translations rely on them as well.
The Vulgate relies heavily on Alexandrian, N, African manuscripts edited heavily by such as Origen, influenced heavily by Greek Philosophy and brought to Constantine, first (christian emperor,,yeah right), by Eusibius, who worships the ground Origen stands upon and is a little follower of the man Constantine, or in admiration with. There were originally 70 vellum scroll purchased from Rome of these Alexandrian line of edited manuscripts, containing many gross errors, both in addition and subtraction to the text, in some cases just to the whim of Origen as He thought they should read!!!!!!
Now, the Vulgate comes from this line. Sadly a majority of modern English translations also rely heavily on these corrupt manuscripts, like the NIV, NASB, RSV etc.
The other line are Western, many out of Antioch, the Western church sphere of influence, the Majority Text, the King James was translated from it. They ignored many older manuscripts because they were know to be of a certain line, corrupt line, which Rome in its Vulgate subscribed to, by Jerome, that translated it from these 70 vellum scrolls from N. Africa.
Note: Ancient Christians buried rather than destroyed known corrupt manuscripts, many later were dug up and trumped as older therefor more reliable, when in reality they were older because they were buried intentionally and taken out of circulation by early Christians, and so were preserved longer through lack of use because they were considered corrupt or not "faithful renderings" of the Word of God.
It is interesting that the King James translators ignored some of these older manuscripts, many times thought because they were considered too Catholic, remember historically this is the time of the Protestant reformation, and much that was Catholic was despised during this time by these Protestants.
Much avoiding of the Vulgate the older Latin texts were used, was probably in large part due to anti Catholic sentiments among Protestants, in large part to the centuries of persecution Christians who didn't side with Rome suffered, even death. Much bitterness from this period came forth, even in translation. But the truth is, the text that kjv1611 adhered too was clean, the Vulgate through N. Africa subject to numerous alterations on opinion and whim it seems at times, was certainly not.
