It had a large air base. Tachikawa Air Base (T.A.B.) was built in 1922. US forces took it over in 1945. Tachikawa Air Base closed August 31, 1977. The base is located next to the city of Tachikawa.
Tachikawa is also known as "Tachi" or "Tachi Air Base".
