Lots of marble, Italy has a gracious plenty of it, alabaster , bronzes ,wood,limstone [softer than marble ] and some granite.

Generally the ancient Romans had their relief sculptures chiseled in stone. If the person were wealthy enough, he might have the stone faced with marble.
