There were a lot of great actors in wonderful Westerns, such as "Gunsmoke", "Have Gun, Will Travel", etc. There were comedy shows with people like Lucille Ball, Louie Nye, Ann Sothern, Ozzie & Harriet Nelson. There were drama series such as "Highway Patrol" with Broderick Crawford. There were good shows for children such as My Friend Flicka, Fury, Sea Hunt, etc. The shows then were much better than the majority of the shows today!

Captain Kangaroo set up shop in the mid fifties and broke many longevity records. One problem with early kid vid, was with the exception of Cartoons, almost all action took place indoors, and this is/was something of a handicap. This was true of Howdy Doody ( who used Puppets, as did the later Winchell-Mahoney time), Captain Kangaroo ( while not a cartoon character, he frequently ran cartoons, such as Tom Terrific- Bahp- Punk, bucketa bucketa bucketa- Bing! a shape-shifting superhero.
