There were a lot of great actors in wonderful Westerns, such as "Gunsmoke", "Have Gun, Will Travel", etc. There were comedy shows with people like Lucille Ball, Louie Nye, Ann Sothern, Ozzie & Harriet Nelson. There were drama series such as "Highway Patrol" with Broderick Crawford. There were good shows for children such as My Friend Flicka, Fury, Sea Hunt, etc. The shows then were much better than the majority of the shows today!
There were many Let us take the decade as a whole: Winky Dink and you had art lessons with some sort of tracing device that fit over the Tv screen and was sold extra (May have posed hazards), on a more convenitonal angle was the long running Howdy Doody Time, Shari Lewis ( various titles, original said to be facts and fun, something of a quiz-show backdrop, Whiole not kiddy programs per se, kids did watch the lighter westerns such as Roy Rogers, Lone Ranger, and the modern, flying cowboy- Sky King. Captain Kangaroo set up shop in the mid fifties and broke many longevity records. One problem with early kid vid, was with the exception of Cartoons, almost all action took place indoors, and this is/was something of a handicap. This was true of Howdy Doody ( who used Puppets, as did the later Winchell-Mahoney time), Captain Kangaroo ( while not a cartoon character, he frequently ran cartoons, such as Tom Terrific- Bahp- Punk, bucketa bucketa bucketa- Bing! a shape-shifting superhero.
