This organisation prefers terrorist action to cultural activities; it will therefore remain secret."Dragutin Dimitrijevic whose codename was Apis made himself leader of the Black Hand group. 1911 he sent a member to assassinate Emperor Franz Josef. This failed so the leader of the Black Hand group Dragutin Dimitrijevic, decided he would assassinate Oskar Potiorek, Governor of the Austrian provinces of Bosnia-Herzegovina. He hired Muhamed Mehmedbasic to kill Potiorek he would do this by using a poisoned dagger this also failed. In 1914 there were 2,500 members of the Black Hand group. It was made up of mainly junior army officers. It also included university professors, journalists and lawyers some of these lived in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
