This failed so the leader of the Black Hand group Dragutin Dimitrijevic, decided he would assassinate Oskar Potiorek, Governor of the Austrian provinces of Bosnia-Herzegovina. He hired Muhamed Mehmedbasic to kill Potiorek he would do this by using a poisoned dagger this also failed. In 1914 there were 2,500 members of the Black Hand group. It was made up of mainly junior army officers. It also included university professors, journalists and lawyers some of these lived in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

That possibly depends on WHICH secret society you are refering to. "The Black Hand" has been used a few times to refer to groups that are secret or at the very least criminal. Such as the mobsters from Italy and the Sicillian use the "the black hand" symbol. There was also the group in Serbia that was organisation called Crna Ruka (trans.
