Russia officially withdrew from World War 1 on March 3, 1918 when the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed, which offered Russia unusually harsh terms. By the end of the year it was almost entirely obsolete due to the Treaty of Versailles.
The first country to pull out of World War I was Russia. In 1917, the Russian Revolution led to the overthrow of the Russian monarchy and the establishment of a communist government.
