There wasn't a signal. It actually sort of just happened. People were in a pub having a few ales and complaining about the tax on tea. Some one said that they needed to do something, so everyone agreed. They ran out the pub, grabbed some things to disguise themselves since they were breaking the law and started on board several of the ships at anchor. They knocked down one of the ships captains when he tried to stop them and threw the tea into Boston Harbor. Our history books of the past have made this seem as if it was a peaceful organized protest and it wasn't.
