Best Answer

The Exodus occurred when Moses led the Jews from captivity in Egypt on a 40 year trek to the Promised Land (modern Israel.)

It is described in the second book of the Old Testament in The Bible, called Exodus.

Probably the most discussed events in this pilgrimage were G@d parting the Red Sea so that the Chosen People could pass and then slamming it closed, drowning Pharaoh's pursuing army. Also Moses received the Ten Commandments from G@d during this great march.

Why didn't the Israelites nor Moses practice circumcision during his reign over Israel when circumcision is supposed to have originated as a law under Moses?

ANSWER:Circumcision was actually given to Abraham and his descendants as a sign ofthe covenant.Gen:17:10: This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and youand thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.Gen:17:11: And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall bea token of the covenant betwixt me and you.Gen:17:12: And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or boughtwith money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. But after four hundred years of bondage in Egypt, they (speaking of Israel) lostsight of it and most of the other requirements of GOD. It became known as alaw of Moses because he had to instruct the children of Israel concerningcircumcision since they had forgotten.[ correction: Joshua 5:55 All the people who came out of Egypthad undergone circumcision;but all the people whose birth had taken placein the waste land on their journey from Egypt had not.]Moses, himself, had lost sight of its importance, and nearly lost his life becauseof his negligence. See Exodus 4:24-26.===================================HONK!-- If you've ever walked along any part of the route of the Exodus down thewest coast of the Sinai Peninsula, as I have, it would quickly dawn on youthat this is no stroll in the park. If you're part of a throng of as many as a fewmillion, who literally never know from one minute to the next when they will beinstructed to stop, or for how long, or when they will be instructed to pick upand start walking again, it would not take a 300 IQ to realize that the last thingyou need is a million or more people in simultaneous recuperation following amass, nationwide, simultaneous circumcision. In the US, we can't even functioncoherently as a nation after a day of eating turkey, or a night of celebrating theNew Year.-- If you read carefully ... always a good idea if you want to try to understandwhether it really says what you've always been told it says ... you find thatcircumcision was indeed maintained in Egypt, and those who came out at theExodus were circumcised. But those who were born in the wilderness, andcomprised the majority of the population who arrived at the promised land40 years later, were not.-- And by the way ... Moses did not "reign" over Israel.

What evidence is there that Moses existed?

There is no evidence. There is only a story, which for all intents and purposeswas probably metaphorical rather than something to have any relation to a realperson, hence why the Pharaoh is never given a name. He is only referred toby his title. This hypothesis is also demonstrated by the complete lack of any record inEgyptian history as ever having had Hebrew slaves, despite the large amountof information we have about the period in Egyptian history during which theexodus should have happened.I suppose it should be stipulated that this only means no evidence has beenfound yet; however, it should also be noted that it is very unlikely that any willever be found.Answer:The evidence is the national, unbroken chain of tradition of the Israelitepeople. We possess the names of those who handed down our traditions, all the way back to Abraham without a single break. And it's recorded inthe Torah. No Hebrew copy of the Torah has ever been found to contradictthe precise Masoretic (traditional) text.
