The US was RECOVERING from WW2 by the time of the Korean War. There had been less than 5 years between the wars. WW2 greatly overshadowed Korea. Veterans who fought in both wars would talk about WW2, not Korea. To some of them, Korea was simply an extension of WW2.
The Red Scare was a by-product of that war. Otherwise, the only "real" concern was the hope that it didn't go nuclear.
