Workers in factories had a stable wage, where previously farmers had relied on the success of crops. There was much work provided for all of the (growing) population. Prices of products went down because they were mass produced, and so readily available. Mass production led to international trade.

Pros: lowered unemployment, everyone was better off financially, easier jobs for workers, scientific improvements, no competition between skilled and unskilled workers

Cons: clouds of smoke everywhere from factories, workers were exploited--they had to work long hours, lack of individualism.

Some advantages were that the center of economic life shifted from the villages to cities where the factories were situated. Some disadvantages were cities became crowded, smoky, with problems of slums, housing, sanita­tion, accidents and epidemics.
