∙ 7y agoAthens converted the cities of the Delian League, which it had led against the Persian Empire in the latter stage of the war, into an empire of its own, living high on the hog off the proceeds. Athens as a result became overconfident and aggressive, resulting in the Peloponnesian war with Sparta and its allies of the Peloponnesian League, which Athens lost and was stripped of its empire. During this war, Persia had its revenge, financing the Peloponnesian League fleet which won the war over Athens.

∙ 6y agoUnder the terms of the peace treaty with the Sassanid Empire, the Byzantines regained all their lost territories in the Middle East, regained their captured soldiers, received a war indemnity, and the 'True Cross' and other relics that were lost in Jerusalem in 614.
