The Korean War was largely fought by WW2 veterans and WW2 tanks, ships, airplanes, and small arms (rifles, pistols, machineguns), artillery, mortars, etc. Supplementing those WW2 airplanes were the new jet fighters. The ONLY new technology was JET WARFARE. The Korean War was the FIRST JET WAR (aerial dog-fighting); MIG-15's verses F-86 Sabres, etc. WW1 was the FIRST AIRPLANE WAR (aerial dog-fighting); SPAD's verses Fokkers, etc. The Korean War was overshadowed by WW2, because the war was fought only 5 years after WW2 ended.

The Korean War occurred within 5 years of the end of WW2. The same airplanes (Mustangs, Hellcats, Bearcats, B-29 Superfortress's, etc), the same tanks M-4 Shermans and M-26 Pershings (modified into M-46 Patton tanks), M-24 Chaffee light tanks, and WW2 Half-Tracks, along with the deuce and halfs (2 1/2 ton trucks), jeeps, and WW2 M-1 Garand rifles, M-1 Carbines, and .30 caliber Browning Machineguns, hand-grenades, M-1 steel helmets for the infantrymen...everything that was used in WW2 was used in the Korean War. With the exception of the addition of the NEW jets. Even the men fighting the Korean War, for the most part, were veterans of fighting Germans and Japanese during WW2. This is the largest reason why the Korean War is known as the "Forgotten War"; because it has been overshadowed by WW2. The men that fought in both wars (WW2 and Korea) talked mostly about their experiences in WW2...they didn't talk about Korea.

Korea was the first JET war (jet dog-fights) and the first war for the US Army's PATTON tank series; the M46 Patton. The Patton tanks would culminate in the Vietnam War with the M48 Patton. The M60 Series "Combat" tank (aka the Main Battle Tank) would give way to the present M1 Abrams tank.

B-29s bombed North Korea throughout the war. The F-86 was the premier fighter plane. The M-36 Jackson tank destroyer and M-26 Pershing tank were widely used. There were a lot of 50 caliber M-2 machine guns used. It is difficult to say what was the most widely used weapon in the Korean War. It was probably the M-2 50 caliber machine gun, because almost all UN forces used M-2 machine guns, but, there could have been a weapon that was used more than the M-2.

The Korean War was a modern day war. Most of the weapons used in it were improved versions of the weapons used in World War Two. Here is a list, one of which, was totally refined from WW2.

1. Jet fighter plans were in their infancy at the end of WW2, and were German airplanes. By 1950, much superior jets were in use;

2. Machine guns and semiautomatic handguns and rifles;

3. Tanks and other motorized and armored vehicles;

4. Land mines; and

5. helicopters.
