maybe because since after World War 1 Germany was a disaster, Hitler came with the idea of getting revenge to the Jews since he hated them so much and the rest of the people agree. True in part....But first of all, NOT all Germans, Civilians or Military were Nazi's. The Public followed the Nazi's either because they believed in them, OR, to keep their jobs, OR, to stay out of the 'Camps'. Remember, the Camps were started to 're-train' any Germans that did not believe in another War, or said something bad about Hitler or his Party. Many died in these Camps a long time before race was involved. With regards to the Military? Well they again either were Nazi, or more common, followed the Laws of their 'elected' Government, just like Soldiers do today! A Soldier cannot decide that he will fight in THIS War, but not the other one, so he follows his Orders, or risks being branded a traitor, or even worse, a Coward. In the Germany of those times, IF YOU REFUSED to carry out an order, You were shot, or ended up in a Camp, BUT EVEN WORSE, so DID YOUR FAMILY. Would you refuse? If it meant that your Mother, Father, Your Wife and your Children were killed? It's a thought! Remember also, that a Totalitarian State such as Germany at that time, Controlled your whole live. Even talking in a bad way about the War, or THE PARTY, could land you in a Camp. Even your own Children could report you to the Gestapo, and thousands did just that. This resulted in their parents being killed.

After WWI, Germany had lost much of their power, so Hitler came in as leader and told Germans that he would regain Germany's power, not telling them his plans to murder Jews, so he invades multiple countries and takes them over, giving Germany more allied power, eventually starting conflict between Germany and Russia, which lead to WWII.

How long was Hitler in power and how did they maintain it?

He was made Chancellor of Germany in January 1933, and by August 1934 was the absolute dictator of Germany. He was in total control of Germany until his suicide at the end of April 1945- so, going from summer 1934, he was in power for almost 11 years. He maintained that power by making other political parties illegal, and using a large and powerful police force to eliminate opposition. Propaganda also played a major role, as well as organizations, such as the Hitler Youth, which were intended to indoctrinate people into believing Hitler was infallible. He rebuilt the military and early in World War II, that military was very successful, which fed into the pervasive propaganda of the Nazi party.

Did hitler kill or send people to prison?

During Hitler's rise to power in Germany, he had to purge certain Nazi's that were too extreme or that threatened the regular army in Germany. For example, the Brown Shirts were a paramilitary Nazi organization. They helped Hitler to gain a degree of power. For full control of Germany, the military high command wanted Hitler to purge the Brown Shirts if Hitler wanted the support of the German generals. This he did and there was bloodshed. Once in power, Hitler had many political enemies that he either placed in concentration camps or had them executed after treason trials.
