Once we ensure a steady foundation for their democracy as well as their military, it would be wise to begin withdrawing. Until then, we can't simply leave the country half-healed. It's a long process, but one that has proven to be worth it so far. I know this first hand because I have been there to fight this war and I have spoken with hundreds of Iraqi citizens. They are extremely grateful for our intervention and our assistance--contrast to the negative media exploitations.

Answer 1

Slowly, over time so that it doesn't seem that we have abandoned the people we helped to liberate. We should also apply to the new leader of the country to rent land for a military base. This way, we continue to have a presence, but only a small amount and for their protection should they need us. It would be like any other country that we have bases in.

Answer 2

For the time being, we can't.

Answer 3

I agree. As long as we don't just leave. Iraq would quickly fall into another "Afghanistan " situation where it would become a future harbor for terrorist.

Of course, the subject is moot at this point since US forces have withdrawn from Iraq nearly four years ago (December 16, 2011), but the President's decision to withdraw quickly, while popular among many Americans and Iraqis at the time, went against most military advice at the time and has been increasingly criticized for its abruptness and its inability to anticipate the rise of Islamic State.
